Every now and then, the sports world gets introduced to a new technology that absolutely changes the game…
With professional sport currently operating at a more competitive level than ever, we have a question for you all. What’s the most important factor for teams to focus on?

With analysts beginning to focus on the minutiae of data, every little detail counts. For that very reason, professional clubs all around the world are beginning to look at Perch – a newly created AI Weight Training Programme.
Already being picked up by over one third of NFL teams, a number of MLS clubs, and Universities, the month the company announced its four newest users – The Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, and Orlando Magic.
So, this is how it works:
Functioning on the back of three major components – a 3D camera, battery pack, and tablet – the technology records the lifting data of individual athletes.
Tracking the sets and reps, what sets Perch apart is its ability to calculate velocity, power, and around a dozen other unknown-before metrics.
Developed at MIT, the technology – which coaches and athletes access through an app – can also help inform teams on how to mitigate risks involved with fatigue and other measures associated with athletic performance
Representing the next step in their plan, the deal signed with the aforementioned NBA teams could be what cements Perch as one of the top players in the sports-tech world…

Well, That’s Smart!
If you’ve been reading The Sports Road for a while, you’d know that every now and then we get a new ‘Smart’ device.
What is that, you ask? Think of – you know – your Smartphone or SmartTV and think about how it would look in a sports setting. Complicated, we know.
But get this, so far we’ve covered the SmartSock, SmartBall, SmartTires, and most importantly for this story, Smart Ski Goggles…
Bringing a new, innovative take on the potential that these fairly common and basic forms of equipment have, developers have recently been trying to change the face of how athlete’s interact with what is happening around them.
So, remember when we told you to take note of the Smart Goggles? Well, it looks like the idea is here to stay.
Although happening in a different sport, this week Form – a Swimming-based firm – announced the release of their new tech-inspired goggles; and trust us, these are crazy.
Wanting to revolutionise the way Swimmers perform in competition, the goggles will introduce the HeadCoach feature, a way for athletes to get real-time coaching while in the water!
Leveraging Form’s current Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities to essentially provide Swimmers with immediate visual coaching, the system will see athletes receive feedback in two different ways – the first being Form Score, and second being HeadCoach Skills.
